| What
Is Yoga? |
|
The
word "yoga" means "union". Yoga
is a form of exercise based on the belief that the body
and breath are intimately connected with the mind.
By controlling the breath and holding the body
in steady poses or "asanas", yoga creates
harmony. The mind becomes still, and the Inner
Self can be experienced.
Yoga practice consists of five key elements: proper
breathing, proper exercise, proper relaxation, proper
diet, and positive thinking and meditation. The
part of yoga familiar to us in the west focuses on the
exercises, or asanas, designed to ease tense
muscles, to tone up the internal organs, and to improve
the flexibility of the body's joints and ligaments.
This is called Hatha Yoga. |
|
| The
Asanas (exercises): |
|
Yoga
exercises focus first on the health of the spine, it's
strength and flexibility. The spinal column houses the
spinal cord, the main nerve cable of the body. By maintaining
the spine's flexibility and strength through exercise,
circulation is increased and the nerves are ensured their
supply of nutrients and oxygen.
Asanas work on the internal machinery of the body, the
glands and organs, as well as the muscles. They affect
the deeper and more subtle parts of the body. The internal
organs receive massage and stimulation through the various
movements of the asanas, and are toned into more efficient
functioning. The endocrine system (glands and hormones)
is rejuvenated, helping to balance the emotions and improve
mental outlook on life. |

Yoga: |
|
Hand
in hand with asanas, deep breathing and concentration
of mind are practised. One hour of yoga practise will
give one hour of exercise, one hour of deep relaxation
and one hour of meditation - through developing concentration
powers within the pose.
The Yoga system of exercise is a complete rehauling of
the entire being. Performed slowly and consciously, the
Asanas go far beyond mere physical benefits, becoming
a mental exercise in concentration and meditation. |

Kundalini Yoga |
|
|
There is unlimited creative potential energy
in everyone. Kundalini Yoga uses pranayama (breath),
asanas (postures), relaxation, meditation, mudras
and mantras to awaken this energy, which in turn
awakens our soul.
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient tradition that dates
back to 1800 BC. However, it was only brought
to the west in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan. Up until this
time, the tradition of Kundalini Yoga had only
been shared with certain individuals. Yogi Bhajan
wanted to share this secret science openly and
widely to give everyone, no matter of race, class,
gender or religion the chance to experience infinity.
It is everyone's birthright to live a healthy
happy and holy life.Kundalini Yoga and Good Health
